There was not much structural work to be done. The most significant structural change was the elimination of the wall that separated the kitchen from the rest of the floor. In addition, there was an entryway from the garage to the kitchen that took up room. So the entryway was reduced to a doorway! The basic shape of the space remained largely the same, but as you can see, the transformation was dramatic.
A gorgeous open floor plan was created by bumping out onto the porch, expanding the kitchen and living room. The house felt bigger and brighter, and the family couldn’t be happier!
The updated kitchen has a generous island that gives the couple the sweeping counter space they desired. Moving the cramped laundry closet, upgrading the powder room, and adding a mudroom improved the flow. Now the family can comfortably sit at the island for a quick meal or enjoy time with family and friends at their enormous dining room table. Upstairs, a new bedroom makes this a “forever home” for the couple, now that they have enough sleeping space for everyone. The new back porch is now a true outdoor living room and al fresco dining room. Adding a roof, ceiling fans, and a portico make this area the ideal spot for unwinding after a long day.
